GDC Dental Rubber Dam Kit
The GDC Dental Rubber Dam Kit is a vital tool used in dentistry to isolate the treatment area during various clinical procedures, significantly improving the prognosis of treatments. Most commonly used in endodontic procedures, the rubber dam’s primary function is to create a barrier that isolates the tooth being treated from its surrounding environment.
By sealing off the treated tooth, the rubber dam helps protect it from contamination, particularly from bacteria present in the oral cavity. This isolation ensures a clean and dry operative field, allowing for precise and effective treatment without interference from blood, saliva, or other substances. Additionally, the rubber dam provides protection for the patient’s airway, preventing any materials or debris from accidentally falling into it during the procedure.

Directions To Use
Preparing the Patient
- Explain the Procedure: Clearly explain the rubber dam procedure to the patient and ensure they understand the process. Obtain the patient’s consent before proceeding.
- Clear the Mouth: Ensure the patient’s mouth is free of debris or food particles to prevent contamination during the procedure.
- Isolate the Tooth: Use a dental clamp or other suitable methods to isolate the tooth or teeth that require treatment. This ensures the focus is on the target area and helps maintain a clean environment.
Rubber Dam Placement
- Select the Rubber Dam Sheet: Choose an appropriately sized rubber dam sheet from the kit, ensuring it covers the tooth or teeth to be treated effectively.
- Punch Holes in the Rubber Dam: Use a rubber dam punch to create holes in the sheet, matching the number of teeth to be isolated.
- Apply Lubricant: Lightly apply a suitable lubricant to the side of the rubber dam sheet that will come into contact with the patient’s face. This improves comfort during the procedure.
- Stretch the Rubber Dam: Place the rubber dam sheet over the dental clamp or frame, ensuring the punched holes are aligned with the isolated teeth.
- Secure the Rubber Dam: Fasten the rubber dam sheet in place using the provided clamps or dental floss tied around the teeth to keep it taut and secure.
Creating an Access Hole
- Create an Access Hole: Use a sharp instrument such as a dental bur or rubber dam punch to create an access hole directly over the tooth being treated.
- Ensure Proper Size: Make sure the access hole is large enough to allow sufficient visibility and proper instrumentation during the procedure, facilitating accurate treatment.
Performing the Dental Procedure
- Proceed with Treatment: Begin the dental procedure, carefully working through the access hole in the rubber dam.
- Maintain Isolation: Keep the field dry and isolated, ensuring that saliva or other fluids do not interfere with the procedure, allowing for a more efficient and sterile environment.
Completion and Removal
- Remove Securing Methods: After completing the dental procedure, carefully remove the dental clamps, floss, or any other securing methods used to hold the rubber dam in place.
- Carefully Remove the Rubber Dam: Gently remove the rubber dam sheet from the patient’s mouth, being mindful to avoid causing any discomfort.
- Dispose of the Rubber Dam: Dispose of the used rubber dam sheet properly, following the appropriate infection control protocols to maintain hygiene and safety.
This comprehensive process ensures that the dental procedure is performed in a controlled, sterile environment, promoting patient safety and the effectiveness of the treatment.
